The Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) is seeking proposals from individuals and organisations to assess the feasibility of expanding the mandate of the MPP into tuberculosis (TB). The proposed timeframe for the provision of the consultancy services is 15th November 2014 to 27th February 2015.

Lithuania hosts a briefing on MDR-TB in Europe for EU member states (post)

On 10 October, prominent speakers were invited to the Lithuanian Permanent Representation to the EU to brief Health Attachés of the different member states’ representations in Brussels on the issue of Tuberculosis and Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis in Europe. WHO Europe, the ECDC, the STOP TB Partnership, the TB Europe Coalition, the European Commission and 10 member states (France, Estonia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Belgium, Latvia and Lithuania) were present to discuss the topic and potential for future EU action. EECA: Civil society organizations signed an Open Letter addressed to the Global Fund Board pleading to hear their concerns (post)

Earlier this year, the Global Fund started a full roll out of its new funding model. In March 2014 at its Thirty-First Meeting the Global Fund Board approved a new allocation methodology and the funding resources for the 2014 - 2016 allocation period. 24 organizations representing civil society and including communities of people living with HIV, tuberculosis (TB) or Hepatitis C, i.e. key affected populations from Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA) and their partner organizations from other regions signed an Open Letter addressed to the Global Fund Board members.

Former MDR-TB patient and TB advocate, Marina, meets with the European Parliament (post)

Between 18th and 19th November, TB Europe Coalition members, RESULTS UK and Global Health Advocates, had the exciting opportunity to welcome Marina to Brussels to brief decision-makers on the severity of the TB epidemic (TB) in the European Union (EU). Marina fought two years to defeat multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) and is now a great advocate on the issue.  By bringing the perspective of MDR-TB patients, Marina highlighted the urgent need for action at regional level to fight TB and ensure the rights of TB patients.
