15 May 2023 | Geneva: TDR (the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases) and WHO's Global Tuberculosis Programme announce the availability of an operational research package to evaluate the performance, feasibility, acceptability and impact of treatment decision algorithms for pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) in children.

A recent systematic review, commissioned by the World Health Organization (WHO), demonstrated that the prevalence of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is high among patients with TB. Published evidence on the safety and effectiveness of co-administering treatment for rifampicin-resistant TB and HCV co-infection is extremely scarce and insufficient as a basis to develop global policy recommendations on this intervention.

The World Health Organization (WHO)’s latest guidelines on drug-resistant TB treatment recommend rapid roll-out of the novel BPaLM regimen that has the potential to dramatically increase cure rates due to its high efficacy, allow broader access due to its lower cost and improve patient quality of life as this regimen is all-oral and significantly shorter than conventional treatment regimens. WHO and its partners have recently issued a Call to Action to call on governments and other stakeholders to accelerate the implementation of the novel, 6-month all-oral regimen for the treatment of drug-resistant TB.

The joint statement calls on Member States, partners, international agencies, and communities to join forces to collectively drive a response that matches the scale of the TB epidemic.

30 March 2023, Geneva | On the occasion of World TB Day, the honourable Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi launched multiple initiatives to support India’s ambitious plan to end TB ahead of the global targets. This launch was part of the One World TB Summit, a high-level TB summit convened by the Government of India in collaboration with Stop TB Partnership. The summit was attended by ministers of health and senior government officials from 35 countries and key global partners including the World Health Organization (WHO).
