Global leadership, collaboration aligned in the fight against tuberculosis (post)

With approval of the post-2015 global tuberculosis strategy by the World Health Assembly, the global community stands united as we work toward ambitious new targets for 2025 and 2035 to end the global TB epidemic. As we look to the future, it is important to evaluate the current global response to the epidemic so we may develop an effective and coordinated approach going forward. Major investments in TB by high-burden countries, the U.S. Government, the Global Fund (GF), the World Health Organization (WHO) and others have led to impressive progress and shown the potential for future impact. Promising new tools are now finally available, with others in the pipeline, and governments, donors and partners are allied around a new strategy with refocused resources.

WHO/Europe: Review of the Tuberculosis Programme in Kosovo (post)

The notification rate of tuberculosis cases in Kosovo (in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 [1999]) is among the highest in south-east Europe. WHO was asked to organize a review of the Kosovo Tuberculosis Programme, which took place from 22 to 26 April 2013.

Senate funding bill disappoints global HIV and TB advocates (post)

The Senate State Foreign Operations Subcommittee approved a fiscal year 2015 funding bill Tuesday with no new resources for the U.S. flagship global AIDS program, PEPFAR, and an $11 million cut in the U.S. response to global tuberculosis. PEPFAR is funded at $4.02 billion and TB at $225 million.  The Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria receives $1.35 billion in the bill for the fiscal year beginning October 1.
