Geneva, 30 January 2019 – Unitaid is investing a further $22.1 million in the World Health Organization´s (WHO) prequalification programme for medicines and diagnostics.

The Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) and Unitaid have jointly published a study into the patent landscape for long-acting technologies with the potential to have a major impact on preventing or treating HIV, hepatitis C, tuberculosis, and malaria in low- and middle-income countries.

New York, 25 September 2018 – Unitaid is intensifying its commitment to fighting tuberculosis with a US$ 21 million investment in extending endTB, a global research project that is improving treatment regimens for patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB).

Geneva, 08 June 2018 — Unitaid and Indian drug manufacturer Cipla Ltd. struck a landmark agreement today that will lower the price of the first combination therapy (containing co-trimoxazole, isoniazid and vitamin B6) that prevents opportunistic infections in people living with HIV.

Harare, 31 May 2018 – The Zimbabwe government in partnership with Unitaid and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) today launched a four-year project to fight tuberculosis among children, a long-underserved group that bears the burden of TB illness and death worldwide. TB, a preventable, curable disease, is the second biggest killer of children in Zimbabwe. 

Unitaid launched a call for proposals for projects that will fight tuberculosis and its drug-resistant strains through innovative diagnostics, wider use of the best new drugs for adults and children, and new technologies that remind patients to take their medicines on schedule.

Pretoria, 23 March 2018 – Unitaid and South Africa’s National Department of Health have launched a partnership to accelerate the country’s efforts to prevent and treat HIV and tuberculosis. South Africa is home to the world’s biggest HIV/AIDS epidemic, as well as one of the highest TB burdens.

Unitaid is seeking concrete, high-level suggestions and ideas on possible solutions to overcome challenges in tuberculosis that would be a good fit for the Unitaid strategy and operating model.
