Stop TB Partnership and UNAIDS launch first gender assessment tool for national HIV and TB responses to support countries with applications to the Global Fund.

A new Political Declaration on Ending AIDS has been adopted by Member States at the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on Ending AIDS, held in New York, United States of America, from 8 to 10 June 2016.

Since the start of the AIDS epidemic civil society has been at the forefront of the response to HIV—demanding access to treatment and HIV services, calling for the respect of human rights and supporting community-led HIV services.

7 April 2016 -- New York, USA – Over 100 civil society voices from the TB and HIV communities joined together at UN Headquarters in New York yesterday to call for stronger integration of TB and HIV programs if the world is to reach the UN goals to End TB and HIV by 2030.

GENEVA, 24 March 2016—On World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, UNAIDS is calling for stronger partnerships and a united approach to end the twin epidemics of TB and HIV and save millions of lives. It has never been more urgent for governments, the medical and scientific communities, the private sector and people affected by the diseases to come together to ensure access to existing treatment regimens and to push for new diagnostic tools and treatments to reach all people in need.

Tuberculosis remains a leading cause of death among people living with HIV, accounting for one in five AIDS-related deaths globally. However, between 2004 and 2014, TB deaths declined by 33% thanks to the rapid increase in antiretroviral treatment, which reduces the risk that a person living with HIV will develop TB by 65%.

GENEVA, 24 March 2015—On World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, UNAIDS is calling for the scale-up of integrated HIV and TB services, particularly in the countries and regions most affected by the dual epidemics. Worldwide, 9 million people developed TB in 2013 and 1.5 million people still die of the disease every year. TB entrenches poverty in many countries, with annual income falling by an average of around 50% among affected families.   

GENEVA/LOS ANGELES, 18 November 2014—The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) has announced that taking a Fast-Track approach over the next five years will allow the world to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030. The new UNAIDS report Fast-Track: ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030 outlines, that by taking the Fast-Track approach nearly 28 million new HIV infections and 21 million AIDS-related deaths would be averted by 2030. 

A new report on Tuberculosis (TB) released on 22 October by the World Health Organization shows that 9 million people developed TB in 2013, and 1.5 million died, including 360 000 people who were living with HIV.

UNAIDS is calling for an innovative, integrated effort to prevent HIV and TB - working together to increase resources and reach everyone living with HIV with key TB prevention interventions.
