Call to Action: Shorter and more effective treatment for all people suffering from drug-resistant TB

Sign up for a Call to Action for accelerating the implementation of shorter and more effective treatment for all people with drug-resistant TB.

20 December 2023 | Geneva -- The Global Tuberculosis Programme, in collaboration with its partners, is pleased to announce the launch of the online platform for countries and partners to sign up for the Call to Action for rolling out shorter and more effective treatment for all people suffering from drug-resistant TB.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners have called on governments and other stakeholders to accelerate the implementation of the novel, 6-month all-oral regimen for treating drug-resistant tuberculosis. The Call to Action highlights WHO’s latest guidelines on drug-resistant TB treatment recommending rapid roll-out of the novel BPaLM/BPaL regimen that has the potential to dramatically increase cure rates due to its high efficacy, allow broader access due to its lower cost and improve patient quality of life as this regimen is all-oral and significantly shorter than conventional treatment regimens.

“Acceleration of the shorter and effective regimens will help save lives of people suffering from drug-resistant TB,” said Dr Tereza Kasaeva, Director of WHO’s Global TB Programme. “We urge countries and partners to join us to show your support and strong commitment to scaling up the novel shorter regimens by signing up for the Call to Action.”

Countries and partners are encouraged to access the online platform and sign up for the Call to Action to show their commitment to rolling out new shorter regimens for drug-resistant TB, including the BPaLM/BPaL regimen.
