Advocates call on European leadership to fulfil their commitment to new TB vaccines
TB Vax ARM launches a campaign calling on the European leadership to fulfil their political and funding commitment to deliver new vaccines to end TB by 2030.
The TB Vaccines Advocacy Roadmap (TB Vax ARM), an international coalition of advocates working to ensure the accelerated development of new effective and globally accessible TB vaccines, launched a campaign calling on the European leadership to meet their fairshare by increasing investment in TB research by at least €320 million per year, with €90 million dedicated to TB vaccine research and development.
From 22-25 February 2022, the global TB vaccine community will come together for the 6th Global Forum on TB Vaccines, an official event of the French Presidency of the European Union (EU).
Representing a diverse coalition of stakeholders — including TB survivors, TB scientists, and community and civil society representatives from dozens of TB and global health organizations from France, Europe, and across the world — TB Vax ARM sent two open letters, the first addressed to the French President Macron, and the second addressed to the EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Ministers of Health – seeking the renewed commitment of the French government, the European Union, and the governments of the EU member states to help deliver a fully funded and resourced TB vaccine pipeline by 2023.
“New TB vaccines are our best hope for a world without TB – it’s time to step up and finally make them a reality. As representatives of communities affected by TB – including survivors, researchers and civil society organizations – we demand long overdue global investments in TB vaccine research and development that truly reflect the disease’s devastating impact.”
The social media toolkit for the TB Vax ARM Open Letter campaign can be accessed here. In the toolkit you will find the open letters, a template letter, three suggested social media messages as well as a link to all the share graphics, available in both Twitter/Facebook and Instagram friendly formats. The toolkit is available in French and Spanish as well.
Everyone in civil society is encouraged to amplify the letter and post campaign resources! Thank you for your advocacy for new TB vaccines!
About TB Vax ARM
The TB Vaccines Advocacy Roadmap (TB Vax ARM) is led by IAVI, Treatment Action Group, Results UK and the Global TB Caucus, with the support of dozens of organizations from across the TB field. The key final milestone for the initiative is the UN High-Level Meeting (HLM) on TB in September 2023, where progress to TB control and funding targets previously pledged in the HLM on TB in 2018, will be reviewed.
TB Vax ARM was launched in October 2021 with an open letter to the G20 Finance and Health Ministers where it called upon them to fulfil their political and funding commitments for new TB vaccines to end TB. TB survivors from all the G20 countries signed the letter, that was endorsed by over 60 TB advocacy, global health and research organizations.
