Civil society groups issue appeal to medicines regulators and governments

Civil society groups appeal to medicines regulators and governments on the occasion of the 17th International Conference of Drug Regulatory Authorities.

The Global TB Community Advisory Board (TB CAB), Health GAP, SECTION27, Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) and Treatment Action Group (TAG) released a statement ahead of the 17th International Conference of Drug Regulatory Authorities, held in Cape Town, South Africa, 29 November – 2 December 2016.

The statement voiced civil society's concerns regarding recent developments in medicines regulation globally, including recent efforts to lower regulatory standards for marketing new medicines in the United States and Europe, and called on the governments and regulators to maintain stringent regulatory standards for new medicines, mandate publication of clinical trials data, and to work towards regional regulatory harmonization.
