The Summit will take place on the eve of the 50th Union World Conference on Lung Health to be held on 30 October - 2 November 2019 in Hyderabad, India.
In order to empower survivors of TB and other lung diseases to share their stories, speak as experts on the disease they know intimately, and advocate for change, the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) is convening the first-ever Survivors Summit, to take place just prior to the 50th Union World Conference on Lung Health in Hyderabad, India.
This entirely peer-driven meeting will bring together those whose lives have been marked by TB, tobacco use, asthma, COPD, and other lung diseases for a full day session with the aim to harness the power of the community to produce a more coordinated global advocacy effort.
Advocacy movements are critical to holding governments accountable for commitments and lead the development of people-centred health systems and solutions.
Participants at the Survivors Summit will discuss the most pressing challenges facing survivors in their regions, and will also develop regional action plans outlining key issues related to policy, advocacy and science that are essential to keeping survivors and affected communities central to the global fight for lung health. A Survivors Statement will be written by the participants and then presented to conference delegates at the opening ceremony of the Union World Conference.
