South Africa: As testing volumes improve, government outlines TB recovery plan

South Africa’s TB testing numbers have recovered from dramatic COVID-19-related declines in 2020, delegates heard at the opening of the 7^th South African TB Conference, held on 13-16 September 2022 in Durban under the theme 'Working together to get TB control back on track'.

While the recovery in TB testing numbers is a step in the right direction, speakers at the opening left little doubt as to the scale of the challenges ahead in the country’s TB response. Even before COVID-19-related disruptions, South Africa had some of the world’s highest TB rates.
