India: ‘Reporting of TB cases a must’

With many private doctors not notifying tuberculosis cases despite rules under the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme to the Health Department, the State government issued a Government Order making it mandatory for all private doctors in India to report and notify every TB case.

This non-cooperation by private doctors had hit the State’s fight against TB and resulted in most cases going unreported. This came to light during the recent Active Case Finding campaign held in the State. The Government Order has been issued following directions from the Union Health Ministry.
