India: HIV/TB coinfected people can get FDC drugs on daily basis in government hospitals

HIV and TB affected persons can collect Fixed-Dose Combination (FDC) drugs to treat TB from government hospitals on a daily basis from Thursday (January 26).

The distribution of Fixed Dose Combinations and ‘99 DOTS,’ a continuous online monitoring of those affected by HIV and TB, were inaugurated by Kanniyakumari Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan here on Thursday (January 19).

The Fixed Dose Combination treatment card was released by the Collector in the presence of the Dean of Kanniyakumari Government Medical College Hospital, G. Ravindran, and Joint Director of Medical Services Vasanthi.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Chavan said that 2,613 persons were identified with HIV infection in the district till the end of 2016. During 2016 alone, 36 new persons were added.

Daily supply

As there were more chances of TB infection for those with HIV, daily supply of FDC, against thrice a week, had been introduced, Mr. Chavan said.

Deputy Director of Health M. Madhosoodanan, Dean of Government Ayurveda College Hospital J. Clarence Davi, Deputy Director of TB Control V.P. Durai and others were also present.
