The new frontier: Spotlight series on mRNA vaccine technology

Messenger ribonucleic acid — known as mRNA — was discovered in the 1960s, but it has reached new heights of popularity among vaccine developers due to its flexibility and adaptability to emerging infectious diseases.

Now, scientists are exploring the potential for mRNA to combat diseases that have long burdened the world’s poorest communities. A Spotlight series, produced by SciDev.Net’s Global desk, explores the development of mRNA vaccines for the Big Three deadliest infectious diseases – TB, malaria, and HIV/AIDS.

The Spotlight series ‘The new frontier’ can be accessed here.
