Global Drug Facility TB Diagnostics Catalog
Global Drug Facility continues to strengthen its diagnostics portfolio with the launch of a new catalog and organization of first suppliers meeting.
6 June 2018 -- Having grown to over 500 items, the Stop TB Partnership’s Global Drug Facility (GDF) TB Diagnostics Catalog has a brand new look. The full range of products in the catalog, from diagnostic equipment and reagents to biosafety and waste management supplies, can now be easily found by product category. The latest WHO-recommended products, including the Determine TB LAM Ag test, Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra, and MTBDRsl second-line LPA, can all be supplied by GDF to equip state-of-the-art TB laboratories.
The new catalog was released at the first annual GDF TB Diagnostics Suppliers meeting, underway this week in Lisbon, Portugal. This meeting is being organized to bring together current and potential suppliers, key countries and GDF teams to share the latest updates and experiences on the procurement and supply of TB laboratory commodities, to prepare for anticipated changes in the diagnostics market, and to identify opportunities to improve performance and strengthen collaboration.
In addition to the catalog, an accompanying GDF TB Diagnostics Ordering List has also been redesigned and enhanced to facilitate the ordering process and budgeting. New product-specific recommendations have been added to guide the user in the selection of items during the ordering process. Technical specifications have been aligned and updated, including product packaging and transport types, manufacturer product codes, quality assurance registrations, and other product information fields. As a final new feature, when the user enters the desired quantities into the ordering list, a linked summary sheet allows for the automated calculation of costs overall and by the supplier, as well as total volumes of goods for the planning of transport.
"GDF has responded to country needs by building a very diverse portfolio of high-quality diagnostic products at the lowest prices possible," said Dr. Lucica Ditiu, Executive Director of the Stop TB Partnership. "The result is more patients getting accurate diagnoses and ultimately the treatment they need."
As it continues to build its diagnostics portfolio, GDF further positions itself as the supplier of choice for national TB programmes and a vital driver of the Stop TB Partnership’s global efforts to End TB. Professor Madhukar Pai, Director of Global Health Programs at McGill University, said "GDF has become a one-stop shop for TB programmes. With all of the advancements in diagnostics expected in the coming years, GDF is well-positioned to get these products quickly into countries to make a real impact."
