The World Health Organization and the Global Fund today signed a Global Strategic Framework as a foundation for closer collaboration, based on respective mandates and strengths, and with commitment toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. It was signed by Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, and Peter Sands, Executive Director of the Global Fund.

The Framework is based on key principles, including country focus and leadership, gender and human rights, respect for each other’s mandate, relying on evidence, alignment and recognition of the wider health ecosystem, financing, transparency and accountability. It lays the foundation for further agreements and work plans between the Global Fund and WHO Regional Offices, and identifies specific areas where the two organizations can work more closely.
