Special WHO webinar for civil society and partners on the TB guidelines development

07 February 2018, Geneva - The World Health Organization (WHO) would like to invite all civil society representatives and partners to participate in a special webinar on the WHO guideline development process, with a focus on guidelines for the management of multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB). The webinar will be held on 27 February from 15:00H-17:00H CET.

Speakers include, Dr Nathan Ford, Chair of the WHO Guidelines Review Committee – the WHO body in charge of defining appropriate and standardized processes related to guideline development. He will provide an overview of methods, processes and procedures for producing a guideline document that meets WHO standards.

He will be followed by Dr Ernesto Jaramillo, Medical Officer of the Laboratories, Diagnostics and Drug Resistance Unit at the Global TB Programme, who will present on the WHO processes to develop and harmonize MDR-TB management guidelines. Opening remarks will be made by Dr Tereza Kasaeva, Director of the WHO Global TB Programme, and the webinar will be moderated by Dr Haileyesus Getahun, Coordinator of the TB/HIV and Community Engagement unit at the WHO Global TB Programme. The webinar will include time for discussion.

The webinar has been organized in follow-up to a civil society meeting on TB held with WHO leadership in Geneva, on 15-16 January 2018, where WHO guidelines have been identified as a top area of common interest.

This also follows on the heels of other interactions between WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and civil society representatives, including, in advance of the Ministerial Conference on Ending TB on 16 November 2017, and a teleconference with civil society representatives in late December.
