Join stakeholders under the umbrella of the Nairobi Strategy on TB and Human Rights in demanding more from the UN High-Level Meeting on TB by signing a petition.

KELIN in collaboration with the Stop TB Partnership, Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and USAID recently held the Nairobi Strategy on TB and Human Rights: Measuring Progress and Planning for the Future meeting on 9-10 August 2018 in Mombasa. The strategy is an international agreement for a human rights-based response to TB thatwas developed and launched in 2016.

One of the key outcomes of the meeting is the development of a Communiqué that builds up on the open letter to the UN High-Level Meeting on TB (UN HLM on TB) Co-Chairs titled “Human rights are imperative to the success of the tuberculosis response” of 6thJune 2018 that was distributed and endorsed by more than 200 individuals and organisations working in the TB response.

The Communiqué spells out four key demands:

  1. For access to TB drugs and diagnoistics through the World Trade Organisation’s (WTO) Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) flexibilities for all who need them;
  2. For the establishment of an effective and independent accountability mechanism;
  3. For the full incorporation of human rights language and content in the UN HLM on TB Political Declaration; and
  4. For civil society representation amongst plenary speakers at the UN HLM on TB to represent those affected who must drive the TB response.

Show your support for the Communiqué by signing a petition here ahead of the UN HLM on TB meeting on 26 September 2018.
