TAG TB Project Co-Director Mike Frick discusses how public databases maintained by the NIH have been instrumental in supporting TAG's efforts to track global funding for TB research over time and hold governments and donors accountable to their TB research commitments.

In December 2018, Treatment Action Group (TAG) published its 13th annual Report on Tuberculosis Research Funding Trends. The report, which tracks global expenditures on tuberculosis (TB) research and development (R&D), has benefitted tremendously from several databases maintained by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). These platforms provide detailed, project-specific information on funding for TB research by the NIH institutes and centers (RePORT), other U.S. government agencies (Federal RePORTER), and large biomedical research funders from across the globe (World RePORT). In the following blog post, TAG TB Project Co-Director Mike Frick reflects on the importance of transparently reporting research investments and describes how the RePORT platforms created by the NIH have proven essential to advocates' efforts to understand TB R&D funding over time.
