As the COVID-19 pandemic spreads across the world, countries are rushing to put in place strategies to ease the burden on health systems and to mitigate disruption in routine health services. The current social distancing and stay-at-home measures will make it particularly challenging for tuberculosis (TB) programs to provide the necessary diagnosis, treatment and care for the people and communities affected by TB.

On Zero Discrimination Day, 1 March 2019, the Stop TB Partnership highlighted the plight of millions of people who face prejudice every day because they are affected by diseases such as TB or HIV/AIDS. They are often shamed and devalued; they lose employment opportunities; they are socially shunned. This prejudicial behavior is called stigma, and it must be eradicated if the vision of a world without TB by 2030 is to be fulfilled.

The UN High-Level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage (UN HLM on UHC) will be held on 23 September 2019. As part of the preparatory process for the UN HLM on UHC, an interactive multi-stakeholder hearing will take place on 29 April 2019 at the UN Headquarters in New York.
