Stop TB Partnership’s Global Drug Facility holds Annual Suppliers Meeting

04 May 2017 - Lao PDR - More than 25 partner organizations gathered in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR for the 2017 Annual Global Drug Facility (GDF) Suppliers Meeting on 25 - 27 April. Participants included representatives from generic and innovator manufacturers of anti-tuberculosis (TB) medicines, freight forwarding and logistics companies, quality control agencies, IDA Foundation, Vietnam and Lao PDR National TB Programs (NTPs), WHO, the Global Fund, USAID, the US Pharmacopeia’s Promoting the Quality of Medicines program, and GDF staff.

Addressing the needs of key, vulnerable and the most underserved populations - essential to End TB

3-5 April, 2017 - Bangkok, Thailand –The Stop TB Partnership, the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and APCASO, together with partners, collaborated to develop the Framework for TB Key and Vulnerable Populations to address the lack of data and programs for key and vulnerable populations in TB. Participants discussed specific issues faced by TB key and vulnerable populations, gaps in data and the lack of understanding of the epidemic in these populations.

A people-centered approach constructed by TB Champions

13 April 2017, New Delhi, India – REACH in response to demand from communities and with the support of Stop TB Partnership and USAID hosted a workshop for TB Champions from the Southeast Asia region to extend peoples’ knowledge on TB and deepen their communication and advocacy skills so that they can meaningfully engage in the TB response to move towards a people-centered approach.

South-East Asia countries adopt Call for Action to accelerate efforts to End TB

17 March 2017 - New Delhi, India - Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Health as well as heads of communicable diseases departments and TB programme managers from all 11 member states of WHO South East Asia Regional Office (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste) yesterday signed a Call for Action for Ending TB, in which they committed to accelerate and focus action in order to end TB by 2030. This unprecedented historical moment was part of a two day event driven by the vision of Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director for WHO South-East Asia (SEARO), and organized and led by the team of Dr Swarup Kumar Sarkar, Director of the Department of Communicable Diseases for WHO SEARO.

10 March 2017 - Geneva, Switzerland - A two-day TB and Human Rights Nairobi Strategy Consultation organized by Stop TB Partnership, in collaboration with KELIN and the University of Chicago with support from USAID concluded today with a clear pathway towards strengthening the human rights and TB efforts. The Stop TB Partnership is making efforts to ensure that TB is not just a medical problem but a social problem as well, and yet ethical and legal issues around TB have been neglected for far too long.
