The COVID-19 pandemic must not divert attention from the needs of children and adolescents in TB-endemic African countries

Wednesday, 22 April 2020 (Paris, France) – If resources are diverted away from child and adolescent tuberculosis (TB) programmes in order to fight COVID-19, the consequences for the estimated 400,000 children and adolescents in the African region needing TB and multidrug-resistant TB care each year could be devastating, warned the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) today.

COVID-19 in focus on World TB Day: The Union stands in solidarity and with resilience in the fight against two airborne diseases - TB and COVID-19

23 March 2020: Ahead of World TB Day tomorrow, The Union announced that a multi-stakeholder approach to infectious disease control based on a partnership between government, the private sector, the research sector and affected community is essential if the COVID-19 virus is to be defeated. The Union also recognised that people living with tuberculosis (TB) are likely to be more vulnerable to COVID-19 and its effects and reiterated that is essential to ensure that access to TB prevention, diagnosis and treatment continue in what is an unsettling environment.

Prevent TB: New open-access course

The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease launched a new open-access online training course, ‘Prevent TB: Management of TB Infection’ aiming to equip clinicians, healthcare workers and national TB program managers with the skills and knowledge to better identify and successfully treat TB infection, with the specific aim of increasing country-level implementation of TB prevention.
