UN General Assembly adopts modalities resolution for the UN High-Level Meeting on TB, 26 September 2018
4 April 2018, New York - The resolution on the scope, modalities, format and organization of the UN High-Level Meeting on TB has just been adopted by the UN General Assembly this afternoon in New York.
Member States in the resolution, decided that the one-day High-Level Meeting on TB would be convened by the President of the General Assembly in New York on 26 September - the second day of the UN General Assembly general debate. The theme of the meeting is “United to end tuberculosis: an urgent global response to a global epidemic”.

Highlights
Participation: The Resolution encourages all Member States to participate at the highest possible level, preferably at the level of Heads of State and Government. Countries are also urged to consider including other representatives in their delegations, such as parliamentarians, mayors and governors of cities and states with a high burden of tuberculosis, representatives of civil society, including non-governmental organizations, indigenous leadership community organizations and faith-based organizations as well as representatives of affected vulnerable populations, academia, philanthropic foundations, the private sector and networks representing people affected by TB. Members of civil society will also be invited.
Interactive civil society hearing: In advance of the high-level meeting, an interactive civil society hearing will be organized in mid-2018. The hearing will be organized by the President of the General Assembly, with the support of the World Health Organization and the Stop TB Partnership.
Agenda structure: The agenda of the meeting will consist of an opening segment, a plenary segment for general discussion, two multi-stakeholder panels and a brief closing segment.
Next steps
The World Health Organization is supporting the Office of the President of the General Assembly, and the UN Secretary-General, along with the Stop TB Partnership and other key partners in preparing for an impactful High-Level Meeting.
WHO will help provide regular updates on preparations and related events, and coordinate with partners, in the lead-up to the UN High-Level Meeting.
